Finding the Good in Everyday

A year ago a close friend of mine introduced me to happiness jars. She gave me a small Mason jar and told me that whenever anything good happens in my life in the year ahead, to take a piece of paper and write it down and put in the jar. The goal was to basically find the good moments of life even when our days are less than stellar.   I have to admit, in 2014 I didn’t always remember to put the good moments in my little jar, but this year I am making a conscious effort each day to reflect on the good.

Now the good parts of everyday can be anything really. It can be anything from a good cup of coffee, to hitting all the green lights on the way to work. It doesn’t have to be anything magnificent, simply something that made you happy, even if it was only for five minutes. It offers a chance for you to reflect back positively and not focus on what isn’t so good in your life. It is so easy to look back on a day and name everything that went wrong, but what if you looked back and found something good?

I found out more about happiness jars through my favorite author Elizabeth Gilbert, author of “Eat, Pray, Love” she is a big proponent of happiness jars.

Another thing you are supposed to do with these little pieces of paper is that at end of the year, after you have read each piece of paper, take them and keep them, put them in a bigger jar if you have to! This way if you’re ever having a bad time in life, you can just retreat back to those little pieces of paper and remember the good parts too. I will also admit, I didn’t do this either, because I wasn’t fully aware of how this all worked, so I ended up throwing out all my positive moments of 2014 after emptying the jar. DON’T DO THIS!

As far as the actual jar goes, have fun with it, decorate it; make it truly something that reflects who you are! And it doesn’t necessarily have to be a jar; it can be any kind of container that you want. Let it radiate you!

How do you #RadiateDaily?
