A mid-year reality check for the goals you set with such confidence in January.
January you was unstoppable.
Vision board? Done. Goals? Set. Intentions? Manifested with a latte in hand and a playlist that made you feel like the main character.
It’s July. How’s that going?
If you’re crushing it, amazing, keep going, this post isn’t for you. But if you’re staring at your Q1 goals like a text you forgot to answer for six months… welcome. Pull up a chair. This is a safe space.
Here’s what nobody tells you about the halfway point:
It’s supposed to feel hard.
Not because you’re failing. Because you’re in it. The middle is where the shine wears off and the real work shows up. It’s the “we were on a break” of goal-setting, confusing, a little painful, and absolutely not the end of the story.
The question isn’t why haven’t I hit my goals yet.
The question is: do these goals still even make sense?
Give yourself permission to audit, not abandon.
Mid-year isn’t a report card. It’s a checkpoint. And checkpoints exist so you can ask:
- What’s working and what am I just white-knuckling out of stubbornness?
- Did the goal change, or did I change?
- Am I behind, or am I just on a different timeline than January me planned?
Pivoting isn’t quitting. Pivoting is data-informed decision making and if that reframe doesn’t make you feel better, I don’t know what will.
The reset is the strategy.
The most successful people I’ve coached don’t finish the year the way they started it. They adjust. They drop what isn’t serving them without guilt. They double down on what is. They treat July like a second January, but smarter, with more context and fewer unrealistic timelines.
You still have six months. That’s not nothing. That’s everything.
So: what actually matters to you right now? Start there. Not where January you left off, where July you actually is.
That’s not giving up on the goal. That’s finally getting honest about it.
