Because sometimes the only way to move forward is to stop fighting what isn’t yours to fix.
We live in a world that rewards constant doing.
The hustle, the goals, the checklists, they make us feel productive, in control, and safe. Until they don’t.
Because sometimes, life throws something your way that no amount of planning or pushing can fix. A delayed dream. A decision you didn’t get to make. A moment that doesn’t unfold the way you hoped. And that’s when patience becomes the hardest, and most important, practice. And I admit, I think patience is a pain in the butt, virtue. It’s really hard. Especially when I feel like I wasn’t born with it.
So, for me, managing stress starts with awareness. Noticing when my shoulders tense, when my breath shortens, my jaw clenches, and when I start replaying scenarios that haven’t even happened. That’s the cue to pause. To unclench. To remember that not everything demands a solution right now.
- Movement helps: A walk outside. A few minutes of stretching. Letting my body lead me back to calm when my mind can’t.
- Breath helps: Slowing it down until my heart follows.
- Perspective helps most of all: Asking, “Will this matter in a week? A month? A year?” Almost always, it shifts the weight off my chest.
Patience isn’t passive, it’s strength in stillness. Like I said, still working on this. So, it’s trusting that what’s meant for you will come, even if not on your timeline. It’s knowing that the space between what is and what’s next isn’t wasted time, it’s growth time.
So when stress rises and life feels out of your hands, remind yourself:
You can’t control the waves, but you can learn how to float.
